At the beginning of this month we took a family trip to Michigan. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids though have now lived away for seven years. When I first moved away I never thought I would miss it so much, but I do. So much has changed. Downtown Grand Rapids is thriving with so many small businesses, coffee shops, breweries and restaurants. I no longer know all the great places to eat in town and discover a new spot with each visit.
We spent two nights in downtown Grand Rapids, before heading off for a week on the beach in Grand Haven.
While downtown we visited the Fulton Street Farmer’s Market and of course the John Ball Zoo. My dad loves showing us around as though we have never been before. It’s fun to listen as he tells us all about new spots and places we have been many times before. Lila was so excited to ride a camel at the zoo! This was big news since the last time she wanted to ride a pony she backed out at the last minute.
Being back in Grand Rapids is always a great feeling and luckily we will be back in just a few short weeks to photograph a wedding.
Stay tuned for more on our on the Grand Haven portion of our trip……
